Getting started

Gateway page

There are several ways to access the collection from the Search or Browse the Collection section of the gateway page (see Fig. 1), including basic, Boolean and proximity searches, as well as by browsing the collection.

Fig. 1: Access options available from the collection's main page.

The main search box performs a simple full-text keyword search. As the tips indicate, it is not necessary to capitalize or punctuate search terms.

The "other options" section provides links to the other search types and to the collection's browse pages, which will be addressed shortly.

Select a search type

Although the simplest search form is the basic search, there are more complex searches available. At the top of each search form (see Fig. 2) there are links to other search forms.

For more about search type options, see choosing a search type.

Enter query terms in the appropriate search form

Having chosen a search type, you can now enter your search query terms. Depending on your search type, you can combine up to three words or word phrases to match in a specified area of the text. For example, the basic search box (see Fig.3 ) allows searching for one word or phrase within the full text of all documents.
