The Richmond Daily Dispatch is the result of a National Leadership Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and collaboration between the University of Richmond, Tufts University's Perseus Project, and the Virginia Center for Digital History. There are currently 1384 issues of the paper available online, ranging in date from November 1860 through December 1865.
Links in the navigation bar above provide access to a brief Civil War period history and chronology by Civil War historian and University of Richmond faculty member Dr. Robert Kenzer, as well as more detailed background and technical information about the project.
In support of the Daily Dispatch, we have added two additional fully searchable texts to the collection: Richmond at War, and Henrico Home Front. These collections contain the Richmond city council minutes and the Henrico County court records from the Civil War period and help the Dispatch within a more detailed historical perspective.
